♪ HIROKI Koichi Neo Quinteto
A quintet that reimagines the music of Koichi Hiroki — one of Japan’s most singular guitarists — through an approach unlike anything heard before.
— A sound of its own
Woodwinds breathing at close range, cello carrying the low end: an instrumentation that belongs to no standard jazz lineup.
— Improvisation with stakes
The writing holds its shape, but the performance never does. The music takes the form the room gives it.
— In search of new colour
Crossing genre lines to draw out everything Hiroki’s compositions can hold. Chamber-music poise and the heat of improvised music, in the same room.
